I would first start by turning your running lights on and using a circuit tester # PTW2992 check which wire (black or white) is your power. I'd recommend using a rubber utility mat like part # DZ85009, which measures 6 feet by 3-1/2 feet wide. You might need to trim the mat to meet your needs, but this seems like a good solution.
